Farmer’s Market

I love waking up on a Saturday morning and going to the Farmer’s Market. I was visiting my family this weekend and so I had the added bonus of getting to go with my mom and sister which is always more fun. We roamed around in the morning sun and enjoyed looking at the yummy goods the vendors brought to sell.

We were greeted by my favorite stand, the roasted chili peppers. I personally don’t like the taste but I love the smell because it immediately triggers my memory of past summers and solidifies that I am indeed at the farmer’s market. If this guy didn’t show up and grill up his yummy smells, the farmer’s market would feel incomplete.

Once we entered the sidewalks were bustling. We bumped our way along to the salsa stand where we each picked up a jar of salsa for our husbands, what good wifeys we are! We then headed for my favorite stand – the pastry and breads. Yum. We arrived around 9:00 and already a fair share of the pastries and danishes had been swept up but we were still able to find some of our favorites. Next time we will have to beat the rush and show up early!

Continuing on with our sugar search we hit the honey stand to pick up some local honey. Did you know that if you buy local honey it will help you with your allergies? This is because the bees carry different allergens and pollens from your area and they will naturally be mixed in with the honey. When you ingest honey with these allergens, your body becomes more accustomed to them so your immune system will decrease its response to want to fight off the “threat” through sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, etc. Basically, it’s a much sweeter alternative to popping a benadryl and with time can actually get rid of your allergies all together!

We then headed on to find what we actually came for, the bones of the market, fresh produce. We hit up various vendors for each item on our list. We have figured out who has the best price on what item but sometimes we don’t mind shelling out a few more dollars to get a sweeter tasting peach or berry. Since I am just visiting for a few days, I’m not doing any major shopping so I wandered off on my own to get some pictures and hit up the free samples (of course!)

Other than produce you have your other essentials like breads and jams made from scratch and a little love from the sweetest families. Everyone from grandma to the youngest child helps out in some way. Just eating the jam makes me feel more wholesome 😉

The produce is always fun to look at but it’s the unexpected items that I love to see. Unfortunately my favorite cupcake stand was absent (probably a good thing for me) but I found some other interesting stands that had me intrigued.

One of my favorite new stands is the “Noosa guy.” He basically sells yogurts in tubs with his own special compote that vary from pineapple to different berries. I wouldn’t have bought anything if it wasn’t for that darn free sample. Once I tried it I wanted a whole tub (or two) to myself!

So on our way out we saw this guy who just made my day. I couldn’t help but stop and take a picture. It looks like he inhaled a little too much helium 😉 It wasn’t until I got home that I noticed he misspelled balloon. Too funny. Would you have woken him up for a free “bloon” animal?

Hope you all are having a fun weekend. Would love to hear of anything fun you did in the comments section below.

Have an enchanting day,

Natalie
