DIY Gray and White French Dresser

As I’ve stated in the past, I’m crazy about all things French. From French Fashion to French Decor, those Frenchies just get it right. I’ve been trying to bring a little essence of France to each area of my home and my latest adventure has been to create a shabby chic inspired dresser for our bedroom. I bought a really sad dresser + mirror set at a thrift store for $40 that looked like it was destined for the junk yard. I saved it from the drum and with a little LOT of paint and hours of hand detailing, I finally finished the beut. What do you think of my French Dresser redo?

I just removed the hardware, taped off the mirror, and sprayed the wood with several layers of gray spray paint from Home Depot (I went through 2 cans). That took a few days to do with drying times. Next I individually painted each drawer’s curves by hand with a can of white paint and an ultra small paintbrush (excruciating I tell ya). I did about 4 coats of white paint to fully cover the gray. 9 drawers + 4 coats of paint + hours of hand painting = one crazy lady hyped up on paint fumes. Once that was all dry, I finished the wood off with a coat of clear polyurethane  to protect the piece from scratching. Last, I spray painted the hardware with a high gloss white paint (3 coats).

We moved the dresser up to the bedroom.. which was an adventure in itself.. then came the fun part – accessorizing! I started off by placing my 2 favorite vintage scones I picked up at a flea market for $2 (bargain shopper for the win!) on either side of the dresser.

Then I sprinkled in some goodies.

To create different layers and height, I used a couple of my vintage Reader’s Digest books topped with a (faux) IKEA plant. I included a pic of Jesse and I (aww), some jewelry trinkets, and a little teacup!

I have a perfume problem. I love to collect perfumes even if it’s just for the beautiful bottles. Here are a few of my prettiest ones displayed on a silver tray (Salvage Army score – $1). I just have to be careful the perfume doesn’t leak on the paint as the alcohol will destroy the finish (read that in a super intense voice.. DE-STROYYY).

Little pic I shared once I finished on my Instagram (can you spot my new Kate Spade purse – eek!)

So what do you guys think? I’m pretty happy with the whole shindig. Even though it took weeks to finish, I think the outcome was worth it! Plus now I have oodles of room for more clothes. Yay for shopping!!
