DIY “Always Kiss Me Goodnight” Chalkboard Art

DIY Chalkboard Art I was at Hobby Lobby this past weekend and found these wall art prints for pretty cheap. I love the black and gold theme that they both have but I wanted a larger size, landscape orientation, pretty cursive font, and the quote “Always Kiss Me Goodnight.” I know, I’m picky. Well nothing quite met my expectations though they came close.

Being the cooky DIY nut that I am, I knew I could create my own custom art piece to look exactly how I wanted it to. I had a chalkboard picture I created for my wedding that I wasn’t using so I decided to give it a facelift.

For the wedding, I bought the picture at a garage sale for $2. It was one of those cheesy “Perseverance” encouraging motivation posters all your high school teachers had in their classroom. I just painted over the glass with Chalkboard Paint ($5 Amazon). I left the frame black for the wedding but for my new art piece, I popped out the glass and spray painted the frame gold with gold spray paint ($4 Amazon).

Once you have your chalkboard ready there are just 3 easy steps:

**Note: If you are good at freehand writing, you can skip step 1 and 2**

1. Enter in the quote you want into a Word document, pick a font, and size how you would like it (I used each word on its own sheet of paper).

2. Print the quote out, cut out with scissors or exacto knife – this is the most time consuming part. Once you have it cut out, tape to chalkboard and trace lightly with pencil.

3. Fill in the words with chalk or I used a few gold sharpies ($4 for 2 pack, Amazon). If you mess up, just paint over with chalkboard paint and let dry before drawing again.

4. Voila! Hang your creation and step back to admire how awesome of an artist you are!
