Impromptu Road Trip

This past weekend my husband and I had a three day weekend so we made an impromptu trip to visit our families in Wyoming. We filled our weekend bags, packed some snacks, grabbed the girls, and headed out.

The start of a road trip is always so fun. Everyone has lots of energy, you get pumped up playing your new playlist, and you munch on the yummy snacks you packed.

An hour later you realize you still have 7 hours left and then you start feeling a little more like this..

We I drove into the night while Jesse and the girls slept and I listened to my audio book, “The Secret.”

When we arrived we were greeted by the most lovely bedroom. In just a few weeks my mother turned my old bedroom into the most inviting bedroom that is going to make every guest never want to leave. Don’t you just want to dive into those pillows and squirm under the fluffy blankets? I did too, and that’s exactly what I did.

In the morning I went to the farmer’s market with my mom and sister and afterwards we stopped by Mort’s Bagels to pick up breakfast for everyone.

Mort’s has been a family favorite for years. If you’re going on a Saturday morning make sure you get there really early (like 7:30) to get the best flavors. My favorites are apple cinnamon and chocolate chip. When they are super fresh I just warm them up and add butter, in the following days I like to toast them and add peanut butter.. yum.

I spent the day with my parent’s dogs brothers: Toby, Teddy, and Baxter. I think Baxter was happy to see me,

and Rosie too.

Yes, Baxter tried to jump over Rosie and got stuck.
Toby seemed unamused

and Teddy had his bursts of excitement but overall they acted like I had never left.

Rosie and Baxter enjoyed some brother/sister play time in the back yard.

Thanks to the fresh cut grass, Baxter transformed into the “Baby Hulk”

Then later enjoyed some R&R.

On Sunday morning my parents, Jesse, and I went to “The Egg and I” for breakfast where I had the most delicious whole wheat pineapple and roasted coconut pancakes!

Jesse spent the afternoon with his family and brought Rosie and Ruby back their first “fan mail” from our niece and nephew.

Later that day my sister and her husband came over for a fun family dinner. We were able to sit out on the patio and enjoy the last of September’s warm days.

We had my favorite authentic Italian pizza from Mondello’s and a healthy salad.

For dessert my mom baked up a yummy pear spice cake with a sweet whipped topping. Super delicious and it got me in the mood for more fall baking 🙂

Monday morning we headed back home. We were all tuckered out but we had such a fun time visiting the fam and can’t wait to visit again soon.

  1. OMG you own not 1 but 2 English Bulldogs!?!? Ahhh I want to cry, they are perfect!! Lovely blog! Also, you are from Wyoming? Do you have any recommendations on things to do/see in WY (particularly near Cheyenne)? I will be visiting Denver often in the next few years and know that Cheyenne is not far away and I would love to explore 🙂

    1. Hi Cassidy!

I’m so glad I have a reader who is a fellow bully lover 🙂 I am actually from Cheyenne so I can help you out in that department! If you decide to head up to Cheyenne it’s about a 2 hour drive from Denver (shorter if you take the toll roads). There is not a ton to do in Cheyenne at this time of the year but if you’re there on a weekend I think going to the Farmer’s Market at the historic train depot is fun and you can walk through the depot after. A lot of visitors head out to the Terry Bison Ranch to get the real “Wyoming” feel. You take a little open train/trolley through the ranch and they pull right up to the grazing buffalo and they have other fun animals too (like camels and ostriches!) then after you can go to their restaurant and try a bison burger. You can also have an old west picture taken or do a trail ride on horseback. Another fun place is the Nagle Warren Mansion which used to be the governor’s mansion way back when. You basically just get dressed up and have afternoon tea and sandwiches but remember, pinky out! Here is a link for more things to do in Cheyenne: http://www.cheyenne.org/things-to-do/attractions/
If you will be near Cheyenne the last week of July definitely head down for Frontier Days which is the largest rodeo. Even if you’re not a country girl it’s always fun to head out to the fair grounds and walk around. There is a concert every night (famous country stars), a carnival, art show, an Indian village, and (obviously) rodeos.

Hope this helps some! Also, I head down to Denver quite often (usually for shopping and dinner) so let me know if you need any recommendations for there as well 🙂

      Have an enchanting day,
      Natalie

  2. Great pics! It’s always nice to spend time with family and your babies are so cute, I love bulldogs! I love the guest bedroom at your mom’s house…can you give us some info on the bedding, etc?

    1. Hi Yessi,

Thanks for stopping by 🙂 Isn’t that guest bedroom lovely? I never wanted to leave! I asked my mom and she said the down comforter and duvet were from Overstock.com but it looks like they do not sell that set anymore 🙁 but they do have similar sets. The head board is from Walmart.com (available here: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cotton-Duck-Button-Headboard-Natural/10760788), and the script fabric is from IKEA which she hung herself (link here but only sold in stores: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/80173365/).
      Hope that helps some!

      Have an enchanting day,
      Natalie
